School Buses for Students
As part of the efforts of the “African Development Fund e.V.,” a significant issue faced by students in African villages has been addressed: the difficulties in reaching schools due to the lack of suitable and safe transportation. Many children in these regions face extremely challenging conditions, having to walk long distances under the scorching sun to get to school. Even more troubling is that some of them walk barefoot to school, which is shocking in today’s world, given the wealth that many children around the globe enjoy.
The organization faces a significant challenge in implementing this project. Despite the possibility of providing school buses through generous donations, financial challenges related to the operation of these buses remain. These challenges include the costs of drivers, fuel, regular maintenance, and other operating expenses.
In light of this, and following the principle of self-financing that the organization applies in all its projects, a strategy was developed to effectively utilize these buses throughout the day to achieve self-financing for the project. The organization discovered that the buses are only occupied during the morning and evening hours for student transport. Therefore, it was proposed that the buses be used as public transportation for villagers during the day, at lower costs than the market rates. The buses could also be used to transport employees of local businesses during times when they are not being used for student transport.
With this approach, the project not only aims to provide a safe and reliable transportation option for students but also to ensure the sustainability of the buses and cover operating costs without continuous donations, thereby contributing to the improvement of living conditions for many people in these communities.
